Memory, Trauma, History and International Crisis

During the 20th century, public and private narratives of wartime, natural disasters and collective mourning  contributed to reconfigure the geo-political spaces of international crisis and to forge the legal categories of its management. The research aims to investigate ways in wich the paths of memory and trauma have historically found an audience in contemporary liberal societies. It explores how the demand for greater international cooperation, the recognition of new social subjects and new rights, and the criminalisation of violence have been brought to the attention of political and economic institutions and the global media debate.
